Introduction 

Law candidates who wish to become civil judges in Bihar must pass the Judicial Service Exam, which is administered by the Bihar Public Service Commission.

Criteria for Eligibility

  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen. 

  • The age of the candidate must fall within the range of 22 to 35 years.

  • The candidate must have successfully concluded a law program at an accredited institution.

  • OBC candidates will be granted a three-year age relaxation, while SC and ST candidates will receive a five-year age relaxation.


Exam Pattern 

Bihar Judicial Services Examinations are administered in three successful phases:


Stage I: Preliminary Exam (Objective Exam) 

Stage II: Written Main Exam

Stage III: Interview


Preliminary Assessment - The syllabus

The Preliminary Examination comprises two examinations, each comprising multiple-choice questions (MCQs) on the subsequent subjects:

  • General Knowledge and current affairs

  • Elementary General Science

  • Law of Evidence and Procedure

  • Constitutional and Administrative Law of India

  • Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law

  • Law of Transfer of Property, Principles of Equity

  • Law of Trusts and Specific Relief

  • Law of Contracts and Torts

  • Commercial Law

 

Syllabus for the Main Exam

Judicial Functions in Bihar The primary examination papers are structured into two significant sections:

(I) Mandatory Papers (comprising 5 documents)

(II) Additional Papers (comprises five papers)


English and Hindi examinations must be attempted; each exam is worth a total of 100 points, with a minimum score of 33 required on each. However, for ranking purposes, these points will not be applied to your overall score.

For optional papers, candidates are required to attempt three out of five.

Interview Round

A 100-point Viva Voice interview round is administered. Eligible for the Viva-voice round are candidates who have achieved a passing score on the Main Examination.


The Result

The BPSC Judicial Services result is disclosed in two phases. 

  • The BPCS Judiciary Mains merit list is made public by the commission after the conclusion of the preliminary examinations.

  • Interview invitations are extended to candidates who pass the Mains examination; qualifiers may access the final Bihar Judiciary Result via the official website.
