Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana suspends license of High Court Bar President Vikas Malik

On Wednesday July 10 license of Vikas Malik the elected president of Punjab and Haryana High Court Association (PHHBA) was suspended and has been debarred from practicing in any court of law. This decision has been passed by the committee of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana.

The committee consist of Karanjit Singh who is also the Chairman along with member Rajat Gautam and co-opted member Ravish Kaushik debarred malik under the final decision is taken on the complainants pending on him.

The committee of the Bar Council took this decision after hearing a complaint filed by a woman advocate alleging assault against Vikas Malik and SS Tiwana. Vikas Malik also removed the DVR of CCTV cameras installed at the High Court Bar Association (HCBA).

Also there have been some frequent events where Malik had often attempted to interfere with the practice of justice and had "brought a stain" onto the noble and distinguished post of HCBA President.

These events include when Malik was also charged by Chandigarh Police under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly attacking another lawyer, advocate Ranjeet Singh, in the HCBA office. This incident occurred when Ranjeet Singh had gone to give the notice of PIL that had been filled by other advocates alleging that he and others misused the funds of HCBA.

It was also stated that two lawyers, at the direction of Malik, visited the complainants' house and threatened them. But these allegations were denied by his counsel.

“We are also in utter shock and surprised to see the audacity and high-headedness of Malik, who has allegedly caused the disappearance of the hard disk/DVR from the premises of the PHHBA office. We are conscious of the fact that an FIR is just a step to commence the investigation into the allegations leveled, but this illegal act of removing the hard disk clearly shows the intention and attempt on the part Malik to destroy the evidence,” said the Committee.

The matter will be heard again on July 11.
