On Wednesday 24 July, the Delhi Court summoned YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a defamation action brought by BJP Mumbai leader Suresh Karamshi Nakhua.
He has demanded Rs. 20 lakhs in damages from Rathee for "defamation caused to him in cyberspace." Nakhua claims that Rathee referred to him as a member of "violent and abusive trolls" in his YouTube video "My Reply to Godi Youtubers | Elvish Yadav."
"The video in question has received over 24 million views and more than 2.3 million likes, a number that continues to soar with every passing moment," according to the complaint.
According to Nakhua, Rathee said in the video that Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted "violent and abusive trolls like Ankit Jain, Suresh Nakhua, and Tajinder Bagga" in his official residence.District Judge Gunjan Gupta of the Saket court issued a notice to Rathee, social media site X, and Google, and scheduled a further hearing for August 6.
It further claims that Rathee's allegedly defamatory words in the video have seriously harmed Nakhua's reputation. It adds that Rathee's allegedly fraudulent claims have resulted in widespread condemnation and derision of Nakhua, causing irreparable injury to his personal and professional life. The lawsuit aims to prevent Rathee from tweeting, uploading, or creating any Nakhua-related video on YouTube or X Corp.
