Massive Breach of Parliament Security: Four Individuals, Two Incidents, and Smoke in the Lok Sabha

At 1.02 pm on Wednesday, a significant security violation occurred during Zero Hour in Parliament when two individuals, each in possession of smoke canisters that released an unidentified yellow smoke, leapt from the visitors' gallery and rushed into the Lok Sabha chamber. Unbelievably, footage captured by the House's CCTV system showed one man, dressed in a dark blue shirt, bounding across workstations to elude capture, while the other was seen sprinkling smoke in the visitors' gallery. The two individuals were defeated by members of parliament and security personnel.

At 2:00 pm, the Lok Sabha reconvened, and Speaker Om Birla delivered a concise statement. He informed the agitated members of parliament, "We are investigating the matter and have asked the Delhi Police to assist in the investigation."

Danish Ali, an MP for the Bahujan Samaj Party, told that a visitor's pass that had been issued by the office of BJP MP Pratap Simha was recovered following the altercation. Irrespective of the MP's office that issues the permit, all visitors are required to travel through five tiers of security prior to entering Parliament.

Karti Chidambaram, a member of the Congress, told that at first he believed an individual had fallen from the visitors' gallery. "I realized it was a security breach only after the second individual jumped; the gas could have been poisonous," he said, demanding a comprehensive investigation.

An earlier report by the news agency ANI featured distressing images of a Lok Sabha official reading to the House mere seconds prior to the pandemonium. Promptly, cries of "Capture him, capture him!" become audible. In attendance were Rahul Gandhi, a member of the Congress, as well as Anupriya Patel and Hardeep Singh Puri, both ministers of the union.

MP for the Trinamool Congress Sudip Bandyopadhyay described the incident as "horrendous." "Their target was unknown to all; why were they acting in this manner?" He stated, "We left immediately, but it was due to a security breach!"

Outside of Parliament, two additional individuals, a man and a woman, were apprehended in possession of colored smoke canisters that detonated, emitting red and yellow smoke.

Already, significant concerns are being raised regarding the security lapse, which transpires on the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist assault that targeted the historic Parliament building. Indeed, a tribute to the nine deceased individuals was presided over by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi hours earlier.
