SC Allows Clubbing of Multiple FIRs Against YouTuber Savukku Shankar Over Online Interview

The Supreme Court of India has directed the consolidation of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar into a single case. These FIRs stem from an April 30, 2024, interview in which Shankar allegedly made derogatory remarks about women police personnel, leading to 16 FIRs across various districts in Tamil Nadu. On February 24, 2025, the Supreme Court ordered that all these FIRs be combined with the primary case registered at the Coimbatore City Cyber Police Station in May 2024. The Court also reiterated its previous directive from November 2022, prohibiting Shankar from making videos or comments about court proceedings, following his earlier conviction for contempt of court due to disparaging remarks about the judiciary. Shankar's counsel argued that the multiple FIRs were a tactic to harass him and stifle his voice against corruption. Despite the Court's consolidation order, Shankar remains in custody due to the numerous cases filed against him. This development highlights the ongoing legal challenges faced by Shankar, known for his outspoken criticism of politicians and bureaucrats in Tamil Nadu.
