"SC Declines to Hear Plea Seeking Protection of Hindus in Bangladesh, Cites Foreign Affairs"

Supreme Court of India has refused to entertain a plea seeking intervention for the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh, stating that the matter falls under the purview of foreign affairs. The petition, filed by an activist group, urged the Indian government to take diplomatic steps to safeguard the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, citing reports of persecution and violence. However, the apex court emphasized that such issues are within the domain of the government and not the judiciary. "This pertains to foreign affairs, and it is for the central government to take appropriate steps," the bench stated while dismissing the plea. The court further observed that India cannot directly interfere in the internal matters of another sovereign nation. The ruling has sparked a debate, with some activists expressing disappointment, while legal experts argue that the decision aligns with constitutional principles.
