Court Against Manual Sewer scavenging
The Supreme
Court mandated compensation for sewer death of at least rupee 30 lakh and for Permanent
disablement rupee 20 lakh or for other disablement case rupee 10 lakh.
The Court
Issued Fourteen Guidelines to Central and State Governments for the complete
eradication of manual sewer scavenging, In the case of Balram Balram Singh v. Union of
India and Ors.
Scavenging
is totally put to an end by strict implementation of the prohibition of employment
as manual scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act 2013
Justice
Aravind Kumar and Justice s. Ravindra Bhat bench issued Fourteen guidelines/directions
in the Case of Dr.Balram Singh vs. UOI and others, for Compliance.
The guidelines are
Rehabilitation should
include employment to the next of kin, education to the wards, and skill
training measures be taken with respect to sewage workers and those who die directed by SC.
