SC Criticizes Allahabad HC Over Interim Order
In a
strong rebuke, the Supreme Court of India has criticized the Allahabad High
Court for issuing an interim order on the supply of food to lactating mothers
and young children in Anganwadi centers, despite the apex court already being
seized of the matter. The Supreme Court described this as an “attempt to
overreach” and emphasized the need for the High Court to act more responsibly
in the future.
Concerns Over Bail Decisions
This is
not the first time the Allahabad High Court has faced criticism from the
Supreme Court. Recently, the apex court expressed disapproval of the High
Court’s refusal to grant bail in a case involving allegations of forced
religious conversion. The Supreme Court highlighted that the High Court’s
reluctance to exercise discretion in granting bail, especially in cases with
unproven allegations, was concerning.
Issues With Case Filings and Listings
Further
concerns have been raised about the overall functioning of the Allahabad High
Court, particularly regarding the filing and listing of cases. The Supreme
Court has noted that the apparent collapse of these processes has led to
uncertainty for litigants regarding the hearing of their cases.
Call for Judicial Responsibility
These
instances reflect the Supreme Court’s growing concerns about the Allahabad High
Court’s judicial and administrative conduct. The apex court has urged the High
Court to uphold higher standards of responsibility, efficiency, and fairness in
its proceedings.
