They can also get free legal aid through the District Legal Services Authority and file for protection, residence, or maintenance under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Options are also available to the aggrieved person to file the petition before the Judicial Magistrate Court or with the service provider or in the nearby police station.
