How does the remarriage of a parent affect custody rights?

Remarriage alone is not a reason to deny custody. The new marriage must negatively affect the child (for example, if the step-parent is abusive or the child feels neglected). Only then will the court consider altering custody. The welfare of the child remains the top priority.
