Interim maintenance is temporary financial help given during the divorce case to ensure the spouse can manage legal expenses and day-to-day costs (Section 24 HMA or Section 144 BNSS). Permanent alimony (under Section 25 HMA ) is a long-term or one-time financial settlement after the final divorce. It is meant to provide stability to the financially weaker spouse. It is awarded after the final decree of divorce.
