What are the consequences if a person fails to pay maintenance as ordered by the court?

The court can take the following actions:
a) Issue a warrant to recover the amount
b) Attach bank accounts or property
c) Imprison the defaulter for up to 1 month per month of non-payment (under Section 144(3) BNSS). So, maintenance orders are enforceable, and ignoring them can lead to jail time or loss of assets.
