Does proving adultery affect the right to alimony or maintenance?

Yes. Under Section 25 of the Hindu Marriage Act, if the spouse claiming alimony is found to be guilty of adultery, the court may deny or reduce alimony. The same applies to cruelty and desertion. However, if only the child is claiming support, the adultery of the mother doesn’t matter.
