The grounds for judicial separation are the same as those for divorce under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act. These include:
a) Cruelty
b) Adultery
c) Desertion for at least 2 years
d) Conversion to another religion
e) Mental disorder or unsoundness of mind
f) Venereal disease in a communicable form
g) Renunciation of the world (sannyasi)
h) Presumption of death (not heard of for 7 years)
Yes, the act provides for the same grounds as divorce under sec 13 (1) and (2) as follows :
Cruelty
Desertion (2+ years)
Adultery
Conversion of religion
Mental disorder
Renunciation of the world
Venereal disease, etc.
Plus some additional grounds available only to wife:
Bigamy
Rape/sodomy or bestiality
Repudiation of marriage/option of puberty
