The Domestic Incident Report (DIR) is a document prepared by the Protection Officer when a woman approaches them with a complaint of domestic violence. It contains details of the abuse, the nature of the relationship, and the kind of relief sought.
Although it is not mandatory, the DIR is very helpful for the Magistrate to understand the background and decide on interim or final relief. It is also used as supporting evidence in court proceedings.(Focuses on quasi-judicial machinery and procedural framework.)
