Bengaluru Ayurveda Clinic Held Accountable for Patient’s Electrocution Death — Highlighting Urgent Need for Healthcare Safety

So get this—a woman, Kamaladevi, 55, walks into an Ayurvedic clinic in Bangalore for treatment. She leaves in a body bag. Yup, electrocuted. This happened back in September 2023 and, honestly, people are (rightfully) freaking out about what’s actually going on behind the scenes in these so-called “alternative” clinics.

The consumer court—specifically the IV Additional District Commission—basically tore into Divine Spiti Ayurvedic Clinic for just not giving a damn about basic safety. Clinic tried to claim, “Hey, we didn’t even use any electrical stuff!” but forensic folks said, “Nice try, but nope—she got zapped.” So, the court made them cough up ₹5.75 lakh plus interest and all the legal bills. Ouch. Not sure that’s enough for a life, but it’s something.

Let’s be real: this isn’t just a freak accident. It’s a giant red flag about how these alternative healthcare places are kind of just doing their own thing, with barely any rules. People trust them to heal, not kill. And when that trust gets shattered? Time for the law to step in, hard.

A bunch of experts are already saying this might (finally) push folks to tighten up safety rules in Ayurveda and all those other traditional “healing” gigs across India. It’s about time. Plus, maybe patients will start demanding to know what’s going on before they agree to some weird treatment.

If you run a clinic, here’s the wake-up call: cut corners, hide stuff, and you’re not just risking your license—you’re risking lives and your own bank account. The law’s watching, and so are your patients.
