About the Project 39A
Formally affiliated with NLU Delhi, Project 39A conducts pro bono legal work and study on matters pertaining to the Indian criminal justice system. This initiative, which employs empirical research to reevaluate the criminal justice system, is motivated by Article 39-A of the Indian Constitution. Project 39A's present mission includes starting fresh discussions about the death sentence, forensics, legal aid, torture, mental health, and criminal law.
About the Project 39A Internship
Project 39A is eager to create a strong and fulfilling internship program that will give participants significant exposure to the subtleties and complexity of India's criminal justice system.
In order to achieve this goal, Project 39A is happy to provide our second internship policy, which will allow us to accept interns from March 2024 to March 2025 on a rolling basis.
Task Areas for the Project 39A Internship
Among the various types of work done are:
Research: Empirical analysis and fieldwork were given a lot of weight in this study. Work is being done on a number of the following issues:
forensic science with a particular focus on DNA forensics
legal aid in the criminal justice system
mental health and criminal justice
torture
administration of the death penalty
Litigation:
To guarantee proficient pro bono legal assistance for inmates facing capital punishment in India, regardless of the nature of their offense.
Qualifications
Available to international and Indian students enrolled in accredited undergraduate or graduate programs in the law, social sciences, humanities, management, or communications and media.
While students enrolled in other programs are welcome to apply, those in the aforementioned programs will be given priority.
Responsibilities
Tasks that could entail supporting legal efforts, research projects, or public outreach campaigns will be required of candidates.
Although the organization will make an effort to take into consideration the interests that the interns have stated, it retains the right to assign assignments in accordance with its needs.
Since administrative tasks are performed by all members of Project 39A, interns will also be expected to help with administrative tasks.
It will be necessary for interns to adhere to Project 39A's operating hours and work only from its offices.
Duration
Full-time internships run from a minimum of four weeks to a maximum of twelve weeks.
Full-time interns are strongly preferred, however part-time intern applications are also accepted.
If chosen, part-time interns must complete their internship for a minimum of twelve weeks.
Applicants' applications must provide the precise dates.
Location
The interns will work out of the offices located in Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi 100078, on the campus of NLU Delhi.
Stipend
Every four weeks of their internship, interns would receive a salary of Rs 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand Only).
A stipend of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand Only) would be given to part-time interns for each of the four weeks of the internship.
The application's deadline
The deadline for applications is at least six weeks prior to the start of the intended internship month.
For instance, if August 15 is your preferred internship date, please apply earlier, that is, by June 30.
